Thought I'd share a moment of inspiration I had at the nail salon this morning.
You might have noticed that I never followed up on my promise to take before and after pictures of my hands when I had surgery. Thing is, I hate my hands. I used to have long, beautiful "piano fingers," and now... well, now I have quite a few years of arthritic deterioration behind me.
But at the nail salon, I saw a woman with hands worse than mine. I did a double-take. An honest-to-goodness double take. A manicurist was air-brushing an elaborate design on the third nail of her right hand. Her twisted, swollen-knuckled right hand, with Swann neck deformities and twisted fingers.
Thing is, she wasn't just getting a manicure. Oh, no. She was having full-on acrylics put on, in bright purple, with yellow and white swirls airbrushed over the color. She was flaunting her hands.
A lesson to be learned here. Perhaps I should learn to flaunt my hands instead of hiding them.
