1:25-6:40 Comments and Snowball microphone demo/review
First, thanks to everyone who left comments and voted at Podcast Alley--our ranking is pretty respectable!
Second, can you tell a difference in sound quality? This show is recorded with Blue mic's Snowball. The difficulties that I've encountered are:
- The Snowball was originally designed for use with Garage Band. In Audio Hijack Pro, the recordings would skip every few seconds. This can be overcome by recording to AAC or AIFF format instead of recording directly to MP3.
- The Snowball can't be used to record to Audacity.
- The mike's first setting, which engages the cartioid capsule, makes my voice sound loud and distorted. I have to use the second setting, which is designed for high-background-noise situations, even though I'm in a nearly-soundproof room.
- Recordings on all settings barely registered along the 0 dB line and needed to be amplified considerably. I corrected this by upping the gain all the way in AHP.
6:40-11:10 Listener mail: Knowing when to use a professional; a Bay Area seminar
Melissa wrote in to offer congratulations on inclusion in Podcasting Pocket Guide and about the wise advice of using a professional for select projects; Heidi shares her night-and-day experience with using Basket Works for gifts this year; 10:25 Sallie Goetsch wrote in to let us know she played a clip from DSSP #21 for her seminar!
11:10-13:30 Topic: Amy Gahran's Right Conversation and two-second statements
Amy Gahran wrote yet another well-researched and thoughtful article last month in her Right Conversation blog about creating a two-second statement to explain what "conversational media" is.
13:30-14:40 Technical difficulties with AHP
14:40-18:35 Topic: 10 great networking questions
These beautifully-constructed questions are all courtesy of the networking guru, Bob Burg's new edition of the fabulous Endless Referrals.
