'I' is the new black
From last night's conversation with Chris Brogan:
'I' is the new black
He said it, not me, goshdarnit, 'cuz I wish I had! What a great way to say that individual voices, opinions and expressions of self are what new media are all about. We speak a lot about authenticity of voice and transparency. We talk about the new media and Web 2.0 being about online networking, giving up control of the message and being transparent. That is what "'I' is the new black" means to me. It means that the coming trend is about being you. Or your business. Or your brand. It means that:
- unlike with a resume, you're no longer trying to put your best foot forward and pad things a bit "because everyone else does"
- the value of new media communication is in the individual's honest opinion, said as he or she would say it to a close friend in a bar
- buzzwords are dead
- the message is the conversation, with all parties contributing
- what you say is who you are
And there is more, but it's late on Friday, and I'm off to meet friends. Yes, in real life.
